Lt. Governor Ramsey's Statement on Healthcare Summit
Tomorrow's health care meeting at the Blair House in Washington is more of a pageant than a summit. You're going to see a bunch of Washington politicians trying to win the war of the sound bite and virtually no meaningful work on the issue of controlling health care costs. President Obama has refused to include even one Governor, Lieutenant Governor, or state Senate or House Speaker -- despite the fact that he will force higher costs onto state governments if his health care takeover passes.
If the President wants to put on a Washington talk show, he has the right crowd. But if he wants to hear the voice of the American people, he's going to have to invite some people from the real world.

As the holiday season is getting into full swing, I hope you're enjoying time with family, friends, and those close to you.
Some recent news about Democrat spending has me worried. News that Democrats in Washington are mounting an effort to raise the US debt ceiling as much as $1.8 trillion dollars is especially troubling. Much of that debt is held by foreign countries, who the US is becoming more and more beholden to.

Frank Goodpasture III writes:
Ron Ramsey is from northeast Tennessee where Tennessee began. As Senator and Speaker of the Senate he knows the issues and concerns of the people from Mountain City to Memphis. His ability to clearly communicate with all social strata in the State and work the processes of government have well been demonstrated in his career in politics. No one else in the field has the innate and demonstrated abilities of Ron Ramsey. He is the obvious choice for the Republican nomination and for the next Governor.

New Appointment to the Haywood Megasite Authority
I am very pleased to announce the appointment of Madison County Mayor
Jimmy Harris to the Haywood Megasite Authority. He has the perfect mix
of business acumen and state and local government knowledge to guide
economic development and bring jobs to West Tennessee. Jimmy has owned
and operated a variety of successful businesses in West Tennessee and
has done an excellent job as County Mayor since coming into office in
2007. He is a proven job creator.

Cody Swinford writes:
I noticed in the newsroom that Ron is a supporter of home schoolers and
would appoint an advocate to the State Board of Education. My wife and I
home school our two sons and find it a priviledge and a right. There are so
many wonderful educational opportunities and experiences for all of our
state's children. It sounds as if Ron is on the right track by opening many
doors for all of Tennessee's students including home schoolers. Education
is a foundation and stepping stone for the future of Tennessee and the
United States of America. It looks as though Ron understands parents should
have complete choice in their children's education whether it be public,
private, Christian, Charter, or home school. Based on this knowledge, I
wholeheartedly endorse Ron Ramsey as the next Governor for the State of
Tennessee.- Home School Father

Derek Graham writes:
I endorse Ron because I have found him not only to be a down to earth man
who is making a difference, but he also understands small business owners
like myself who need to keep taxes low and keep the environment for
business to be fruitful. I also found his current experience as Lt Governor
to be a huge leap in the experience over the other candidates. He simply
has experience, knows he people, knows the state and the office. Thats why
Ron Ramsey has my vote.
Mark Vance writes:
I met Ron back in the 1980's while he and My brother Ken was working in
real estate for Mike and Monty Nidiffer. I always have appreciated Ron's
honesty and integrity in dealing with people. I have had the pleasure to
watch him in action as our Senator, and now as our LT Governor while
visiting legislative plaza and have been impressed how he can manage his
time, but also take the time to meet with the local people from East
Tennessee. Ron has not lost the ability to throw up his hand when seeing
his friends or take a few minutes to listen to there concerns. I believe we
need Ron as the next Governor of the great state of Tennessee, because he
understands what it takes to make a living, how to raise children, operate
his own business. We need a man like Ron in Nashville to turn this state
around. I do not believe the other Republican or Democrat candidates have
the experience and knowledge to turn this state back over to the people of
the state. So this is why I want to endorse Ron Ramsey.

The Economy Is The Most Important Issue
Since I first began my career in public service one thing has remained constant: I have fought every step of the way to make Tennessee’s economy the strongest it could be. Job growth must be the top priority for state government. As the owner of a small business, I know how difficult it is for startup and small businesses to operate in today’s economic environment.

The Wrong Way To Reform Health Care
Last night, the President spoke in very general terms about
his vision of health care reform. He would do well to look at Tennessee to
find out how not to reform health care. Those of us who live in Tennessee know
that Tenn Care has not accomplished the goals of genuine health care reform.
In fact, it cost the state so much money that it almost bankrupted us.

Why We Can’t Afford to Ignore Education
In August, most students across the state began to return to the classroom. Our school officials have much work to do to help our students improve in every aspect of their education. Tennessee has for too long ranked near the bottom of all states in terms of results on standardized testing and in terms of the percentage of our students who graduate from high school.

In Case You Missed It
In recent weeks, Ramsey has been creating a lot of buzz and is coming on strong. Ramsey was expected to be handicapped by the ethics law that prevents him from raising money while the Legislature is in session. But being in session has also meant he is making news every week.
A recent private poll shows Ramsey with the highest statewide name recognition, not surprising since the other candidates have not ventured beyond home base during their careers. Ramsey has been stumping Lincoln Day dinners for years trying to elect Republican senators to take over and make him the Speaker-and he has succeeded.

The Fight for Judicial Reform
In 2006, the state witnessed a yearlong battle between the Judicial Selection Commission and Gov. Phil Bredesen over the selection of appellate judges, including state Supreme Court judges.
It culminated in a state Supreme Court ruling that the commission, created by the so-called Tennessee Plan, failed its duty to provide diversity in choices it sent to the governor.
The commission twice submitted a former Tennessee Democratic Party chairman after Bredesen made clear his wish to have qualified minority candidates on any slate he received. Bredesen said he was "taken aback by the game-playing" of a commission "trying to force people down my throat."
After watching this debacle, I resolved to fix the problem...

Campaign Update
This evening
This evening, I attended the Tennessee Development District Legislative Appreciation Dinner where they were very kind to honor me with their Legislator of the Year Award.
I am proud to have made it my priority in Nashville to make Tennessee the best place in the country to start or grow a business. Providing a good environment for business is the most important thing we can do to improve our state.
Across Tennessee, the regional Development District Associations are committed to improving the quality of life in their areas. Solving common problems regarding economic development and regional growth is a part of the mission, but their scope is much larger.
Their 40-year history is one of preparing and maintaining long-range plans, strategies and policies for regional development including transportation, water and wastewater infrastructure, water and air quality improvement, solid waste management and open space and recreation planning.
The Development Districts are valuable organizations of citizens who are dedicated to improving the daily life of Tennesseans today and tomorrow.
Sincerely,

Reflecting On Yesterday’s Prayer Breakfast
Yesterday morning I had the opportunity to pray and fellowship with leaders from all over our great state at the 35th Annual Tennessee Prayer Breakfast in Nashville. My thanks go out to the Citizen's Committee who arranged the Breakfast and to Alison Krauss for the inspiring songs of praise that we enjoyed. Olympic figure skating gold medalist and Tennessee resident, Scott Hamilton, was the keynote speaker and he challenged each of in attendance to decide "what kind of person we would be today". His challenge is something that our legislators and leaders need to ask themselves every day.
I am truly blessed to have the opportunity to serve Tennesseans as Lieutenant Governor and Speaker of the State Senate. It is my sincere hope to use every day to be the leader that the voters of the 2nd District and the members of the State Senate asked me to be. As Governor, you will be able to count on me every day to hold true to the conservative ideals that Tennesseans share.

Ron Ramsey Endorsements
Jennifer Garrett Harville, from Morristown TN. writes:
I have known Ron Ramsey for thirty years. I watched him start and build a successful Real Estate & Auction Company. I witnessed him being a hands on father and loving husband. The first time he ran for State Representative he ran a true grassroots campaign. He spent countless hours knocking on doors listening to voters concerns and asking for each vote. Ron went to Nashville with the same commitment and maintained his conservative values. Although Ron has been successful in each of his campaigns and has certainly gained political power in Nashville he has remained the same great father, loving husband, friend and christian man he was when I met him thirty years ago. Ron has worked hard as both a State Representative and State Senator for all of the people in his district. As Lt. Governor Ron has shown his commitment to the whole state of Tennessee. Ron can relate to every person in this State not just the ones with deep pocket to fund his campaign. During this changing economy we need someone like Ron to bring the State of Tennessee through this recession and get us back on track. Even while exploring his race for the Governor's office Ron has gone back to his grassroots campaign style and is visiting every county in the State. He is one of us and he will be there for all of us. Good luck Ron and God Bless!
Chuck Grimes writes:
From the first day I met Ron, he has been a great friend - receptive, understanding, and concerned. In the three years I have known him, he has made me feel like family, as he does with anyone he meets. That's the kind of Governor I want - one who remembers that Tennessee is a family working for the best life possible. As a man who understands the importance of the hard worker and the creative entrepreneur, he can keep us on a track to weather the economic storm. He also knows that a strong citizenry is an educated one and will empower our teachers, students, and parents to always pursue excellence. Ron Ramsey is the right man at the right time!
Garry L. Thomas of Nashville says:
I met Ron Ramsey while serving an internship at the Senate in the office of Senator Rusty Crowe. I believe him to be a dedicated public servant and and an honorable man.
Steve Sandlin writes:
He is a man that means what he says and says what he means! He didn't fall into this job he has worked hard for it and I KNOW RON RAMSEY WILL BE A GREAT GOVERNOR!
Brent Roswall says:
