As the holiday season is getting into full swing, I hope you're enjoying time with family, friends, and those close to you.

Some recent news about Democrat spending has me worried. News that Democrats in Washington are mounting an effort to raise the US debt ceiling as much as $1.8 trillion dollars is especially troubling. Much of that debt is held by foreign countries, who the US is becoming more and more beholden to.

Americans, and Tennesseans, have always worked hard to come back from difficult situations. That's what it will take, not a plan by some in Washington to mortgage the future of our kids and grandkids.

Today, Republicans in the House of Representatives are doing just that kind of hard work. Republican leaders are working to bring to the floor a vote ending the TARP program, and using the leftover funds from the $750 billion program to reduce the deficit. Its that kind of reversal of runaway spending that will continue the signs of economic growth seen over the last couple of months.

In Tennessee, we need to lead the fight in finding ways to stop the expansion of government control at the state level. As your next governor, I'm committed to an economic plan that actually works.

Entrepreneurs have been the leading force in previous economic recovery, and I believe they will be again.

That's why I support small business. As a business owner myself, I know how hard that road can be, and we don't need bad policy to make it worse.

Over the coming months, I will be focusing on leading the state senate in supporting continued economic recovery, and fighting to keep forced democratic spending under control.

As always, I want to hear from you. Share your thoughts with me, and let's work together to keep Tennessee working.
