Nashville – Lt. Governor Ron Ramsey and Speaker of the House of Representatives Kent Williams today announced their appointees to the new Judicial Nominating Commission. The commission will review and recommend applicants for vacancies on appellate and state trial courts across Tennessee.

Lt. Governor Ramsey would appoint Home School advocate to State Board of Education
NASHVILLE - Lt. Governor Ron Ramsey (R-Blountville) today announced that he will appoint a home school advocate to the Tennessee State Board of Education if elected Governor. Over 60,000 students are schooled at home in Tennessee but they have never had representation on the State Board of Education.
"A growing number of Tennessee parents are choosing to home school their children and it is time they had representation on the State Board of Education," said Lt. Governor Ramsey. "The decision to home school gives parents control in how their children are educated. As a rule, home schooled Tennesseans are well-educated and important members of their communities - it's time the state recognizes and honors that positive contribution."

Ramsey noted that he made news this week without intending to, by answering a reporter's question about the confirmation of Appeals Court Judge Sonya Sotomayor for a seat on the U.S. Supreme Court.
Ramsey had already noted his strong support for the Second Amendment Right to bear arms, and his introduction of the right-to-carry bill that he said has improperly been characterized as the "guns in bars" bill.

If words are weapons, Lt. Gov. Ron Ramsey is a machine gunner.
Ramsey, who seeks the Republican nomination for Tennessee governor, demonstrated some of the rapid fire verbal tricks learned during his career as an auctioneer during a breakfast event held Friday at the Blount County Chamber of Commerce.
"I'm one of those fast-talking politicians you've heard a lot about," he said, grinning.
The first Republican speaker of the state Senate in 140 years, Ramsey spent years using his skills as a salesman to help create the current Republican majority in the chamber. "You don't get a majority for the sake of being a majority," he said. "You get to be a majority because for five years I traveled the state selling the message that it matters who governs."
